Long-term System Shutdown
Milli-Q Standard System
Completely drain the system.
Take out the cartridges and housings and clean the insides of the housings and heads (follow the directions given earlier in this section.)
Because bacteria can grow in used cartridges, throw away the current final filter unit and all old cartridges in the system.
Milli-Q Pyrogen-free System
Completely drain the system.
Take out the cartridges and housings and clean the insides of the housings and heads (follow the directions given earlier in this section.)
Because bacteria can grow in used cartridges, throw away the current final filter unit and all old cartridges in the system, except for the UF cartridge
Immerse the UF cartridge in a heavy plastic bag full of 2-4% formalin and store it in the refrigerator.
Before restarting the machine, flush the UF cartridge with water to wash out all of the formalin.
Check the effluent for any remaining formalin using a formdehyde test reagent.
