Question

I am having an issue with my NANOpure Deionization Type D4700 Series 687 canister and filter. It is the UltraPure SG (part D5027) filter. The problem is that it is starting to change colors and look like it is dividing. Could you please take a look at it and guide me in my next steps to resolving the issue?

Answer

Usually when you see resin separate in a mixed bed filter it is because the flow is backwards. Water needs to flow from the top down in any granular filter otherwise the media begins to float and separate by density. If the housing is marked in and out, you would need to flow into the "out" port because housings that are marked that way are done so for sediment filters which flow the opposite direction.

I would think the color change is probably that separation assuming you are feeding it with water that does not have a lot of iron or other fouling contaminants.
