Water The Cleansing Agent

Glassware and tools in laboratories and hospitals that are to be used in applications where contamination by foreign substances is undesirable and unacceptable are washed in ultrapure and even absolutely pure water. These items are usually cleaned by scouring and/or chemical and thermal sterilization. In some cases this equipment can still carry traces of chemical cleaners organic matter and even metal salts. These are usually removed by a final rinse in pure water.
