Due to a death in our organization we have temporarily changed our ordering procedures. We are now allowing phone in orders for in-stock items only, paid with a credit card. We are not currently accepting purchase orders. Existing orders will be processed. Thank you for your understanding.
We have a Barnstead Diamond Water System Model# D11901, that we are having problems with the system dropping below the 18 meg ohms required for this system.
The unit was decontaminated last week and new filters installed. What is the proper procedure for doing this? Are you supposed to decontaminate before the new filters are installed or should you replace the filters then decontaminate? Will the cleaning solution harm the new filters?
Answer
It is best to decontaminate the system and then change the filters. That way you do not have to worry about harming the new filter.
Normally it would not harm it to change the filter first and then sanitize the system, but if they do not do it right you may have a problem. You can not harm a new filter that is not installed yet.
When you inject the chemical, it can go backwards and hit the filter, so it is best to just wait to change the filter if you want to be safe.
Most companies including Barnstead and Millipore have stopped recommending chemical sanitization all together unless the water is used to hyper critical applications.
On the Diamond you are really only sanitizing the tube between the filter and the outlet so it really does not do very much for you.
This high capacity four housing lab water system is designed to provide up to 3 l.p.m. of ultrapure water exceeding ASTM and CAP Type I, II or III specifications.
