Question

The Bacteria filter on my Barnstead E-Pure system plus rather quickly. I am feeding the system with city water. If there something I can do to make it last longer?

Answer

The best thing you can do it to add reverse osmosis or distilled water pretreatment before your system. Not only would that get rid of the particulates that are plugging your Bacteria filter, they will remove the dissolved metals and will make your other e-pure filters last significantly longer. There are many advantages to using either of these. This pretreatment always pays for itself within a few filter kit change-outs due to the extended life of the filters.

You can find economic reverse osmosis systems here :

and you can find distillers here :

If you can't do that, you can do is put a 0.22 filter with much more surface area that will last longer than the small surface are outlet filter.

You would use these items :

10” 0.22 Filter

Housing

Bracket

You will also need a pre and post pressure gauge so you would know when it was plugging based on the pressure drop.
