How to stabilize water pH.

Question

We need a source of water with a stable pH The actual value is not critical but ideally closer to 7 is better We will heat the water to between 105F and 115F and we need the pH to remain constant We use tap water and it appears to be hard pH of 9ish and when we heat it it drifts down over time but never really stabilizes Thanks in advance

Answer

I believe what you are seeing is that as you heat the water, it adsorbs co2 and forms carbonic acid which will lower the pH.

The only way I can think of is to start with pure water and add potassium chloride to buffer it. It is the same thing you would do when measuring pH of pure water.

Here is a link to an article about it.
