Question

Hi Amy We are working with a Barnstead 3Module Epure unit and are experiencing frequent ERR codes on the resistivity display unit when in operation We are currently feeding this system with tap water and prefiltering with a Barnstead Bpure filter canister When we initially turn on the Epure unit the resistivity is in the 1518 Mohm range but after a few minutes of operation dispensing the Mohm readings change to ERR prompting us to turn the unit off to clear the error turn it back on and recirculate prior to resuming dispensing water What corrective actions do you recommend?

Answer

What you see is very common.

The err means that the meter is reading higher than 18.3 megohm which is not possible with water so its lets you know by displaying ERR.

This can be caused by two things.

1. The meter is no longer in calibration.

Unfortunately those meters can not be re-calibrated and are fixed. Your only choice is to replace the meter to fix a calibration issue.

The meter can be found here.

2. You can have air trapped in the resistivity cell. Since air offers unlimited resistance to electricity its reading is much higher than 18.3 megohm and will case the ERR error.

To fix it, remove and clean the resistivity cell. Place the cell back in the system but keep it a little loose. Turn the system on and when water leaks around the loose cell, tighten it and see if that fixes the problem.
