Question
I have a Barnstead EPure 3 filter system currently we have two MB1801 filters and one OS 1801 filters attached to it and it has met our labs needs However we are now starting testing for Total Organic Carbon SM 5310C which tests for the amount of organic carbon in a liquid sample Preliminary testing is giving high values for organic carbon in our water from our filter system and I was curious as to if an adjustment in one of our filters in the EPure would help eliminate this issue
Answer
It is important to look at your feed water. For those requiring ultra low TOC level (less than 50 p.p.b.) you need to pretreat the the water with either reverse osmosis or distillation to remove the large mol wt Organic. You can try using the CF1801, MB1801 and the OS1801 which will give you better removal and both large and small molecular weight organic contaminants. Reverse Osmosis works best but you might get by with add some good activated carbon like the CF1801.
