If I plan to put a water softener on the hot water side only, do I cut the number of people by half for calculation purposes?
Answer
Yes you are correct. You probably use less than 1/2 of the water when only considering the hot water. If you buy a meter based system it will adjust to actual use but for sizing. Considering 40 gallons per day per person would be correct.
You can also lower the shower head flow rate by 1/2.
