Question
I have a five foot water filter solely used to remove a ong hydrogen sulfide smell. What is the best kind of carbon media to use? I read that Centaur is specifically made for HS odor.
Answer
In regards to reduction of hydrogen sulfide, if you are going to use carbon, then Centaur (catalytic) carbon is the best choice. Centaur carbon can handle up to 5 ppm of hydrogen sulfide compared to traditional activated carbon with typically minimal reduction. Water flow rate and backwash rates per cubic foot are the same as regular activated carbon so you can directly replace your standard carbon with the Centaur.
