Question
I have a water distiller which I have going to my refrigerator water system. It is an auto system but when running I get water hammer in the line. Do I need to add an additional pump to get more water flow? Its probably a 20 water line from the distiller to the refrigerator.
Answer
Water hammer comes from starting and stopping flow. My guess is that the inlet solenoid on the distiller is opening and closing. This could be caused by a weak solenoid or some other problem. It could also be a bad diaphragm pump which also intermittently cuts the water on and off. If the diaphragm pump flows more than you are using it will cut off on high pressure. This could also be your problem. Put a pressure gauge after the pump and see what it looks like. It is impossible for us to accurately guess at what the cause is but that should point you in directions to look at.
