Question

Your calculator says that I would use 4400 grains per day, for 30000 per 7 day regeneration. I have a septic system and would like to keep salt levels low. Would you suggest a 20000 capacity unit for regeneration every 5 days, to conserve the 15 needed for a 30000 grain unit?

Answer

It doesn't really matter, it is going to use 8 lbs of salt every time you use 30,000 grains of capacity. When dealing with septic, you can always put the drain into a dry well or separate leach pit along with your washer.
