Question
I need to purchase resin for my water softener. I got it for free used but it looks in good shape. I have 56 p.p.m. hardness in my water test and was hoping you could point me in the right direction. Also, what kind of gravel do i put in the bottom? Will Limestone work?
Answer
I really don’t see much of a need for a softener for you. You water is about 3 grains/gallon hard which is very low. If you want to use it, you should use this calculator to see how much you need and then pick the standard water softener resin from the chart. https://www.apswater.com/cylinders.asp You wont need gravel unless the softener is 16" diameter which I doubt. If you want gravel anyway, you can get that here. https://www.apswater.com/shopexd.asp?id=16938&product=GRAVEL-14-16-BOX+Filtration+Gravel+Pack You would not want to use limestone because it would dissolve and make the water harder all over again.
